Dear Reader – February 2010

February, the month of love and happiness, which makes it quite fitting for me to say Happy New Year! OK, so I’m a little late with my celebration, but frankly I hope to be sharing that sentiment the whole year through. In December 2009, I wrote to you about how excited I was to close the door on that year and begin anew. However, my sister-in-law recently shared a perspective via her Facebook status that gave me a moment of pause. She said, “Am I the only one who misses ‘09? How can anyone be glad a year is over? Whether good or bad time is flying by way too fast! My years seem like days 🙁 I just need life to slow down.”
I am still ecstatic to be in 2010 and something magical did happen at the stroke of midnight, which began this year, but she makes a good point. Time is flying by at the speed of light and the older we get the faster it seems to go. Sadly, I race ahead because I’m already working on things that won’t happen until April, May, and beyond. But you are fortunate in that you work in a field that is focused on stilling the hands of time and bringing a little glimpse of peace to every client you touch. Yet even as you sit in the treatment room diligently trying to diminish the signs of time passed on your client’s skin, you too are thinking ahead.
Why is it so difficult to live in the moment, to enjoy and live each day as though it is our last? This year I challenge you to do just that, seizing each precious moment and noticing all the miracles that surround you. Whatever they may be – a beautiful sunrise that paints the morning sky, your baby’s smile (however old they might be), or the perfect cup of coffee – capture the moment as though taking a picture, give thanks, and let it soothe your soul.
Now, I’m not much on resolutions, but this is my personal goal this year to live and share the spirit of thanksgiving, happiness, and celebration all year. Today, I am thankful for each person reading this message. I am happy that you are able and that you have a desire to further your knowledge of aesthetics. To that end, I want to assure you that each and every issue is created with the awareness of that desire and our goal is to make it possible.
I hope that you enjoy this issue, and find information about sun care and skin cancer that you can share with your clients to help fight the battle that rages on, for indeed the hands of time are moving and sun exposure is a primary assailant.

Happy reading,
