Wow, what a year! Can you believe it is already December? I guess it is true, time flies when you are having fun. And we have certainly been having fun this year, planning and strategizing from magazine content to AIA programs. We have spent the better part of this year evaluating our methods and current offerings and looking at how we can refresh them and make them better. We believe that your time is both valuable and limited and therefore you are rightfully selective when choosing a journal or association. With that in mind we are assembling a group in AIA we have titled Ambassadors. This group of individuals will be 300 strong with representatives from all aspects of the industry: practicing aestheticians, educators, salon/spa owners, product manufacturers and distributors, and consultants. Our Ambassadors combined with our Academy of Legends is available to all AIA members via our website for networking, advice, and mentoring. These individuals will be writing more frequently in DERMASCOPE Magazine, the official publication of AIA as well as participating in the discussion forums on our websites. We want to offer you benefits that are tools which you can put to work for you and grow your career. To learn more about AIA and our programs, go to www.aiaprofessional.com. As for DERMASCOPE, we are working on new editorial themes, departments, and special sections to bring you in 2009. Speaking of new names and faces, our editor Amanda Strunk will be joining me in writing the Dear Reader column next year. Having grown up in this industry, she will continue to bring a young, fresh, and edgy perspective to the table that we think you will enjoy. And just as I have and will continue to do, she will welcome your comments and suggestions. So you see, we have spent much time this year “Refreshing our Space” and in this issue we are bringing you tips and ideas on how you can too with articles about whether or not your spa needs a facelift, how to choose a product line, marketing to couples (that’s a great one for the upcoming Valentine’s season), or more tips on retailing. Also, not to completely depart from skin care this month, we have included an excellent article by Christine Heathman on “The Fundamental Role of the Stratum Corneum”. So grab a cup of hot tea and a dictionary, find a quite place to sit, and soak in all the information of these enlightening pieces. Once you’ve finished them, we hope you can take what you learn and use the information to re-energize your clients and get them excited again about coming to see you again by taking stock of the good, the bad, and the ugly. Then do away with the latter two. Their time is valuable and limited too. So don’t fault them for being choosy, just invest in making you and yours the place they choose!
Happy Holidays,
Saundra
