Dear Reader

It’s August and you know what that means… summer is almost over and school will soon be back in session. By the time you are reading this issue you should be making your final preparations for the surge of clients returning from their summer travels and skin care hiatus. To help you fight the ravages the sun and lack of maintenance your client’s skin has endured since their last visit, you are going to need many tools.

In this issue, we have put together a series of articles and information to help you select which tools are appropriate for you. Totally Equipped by Nina Curtis will walk you through the variety of machines available, points to consider, and possible contraindications. Ultrasound Science by Christine Heathman takes you on an in-depth look at ultrasound machines, how they can be used, and their benefits. In addition to the theme section this month, we have two business articles to share with you. The first of which is Motivating Employees by Melinda Minton. August is a great month to bring your team together for some inspiration and motivation following the dog-days of summer. Minton has many suggestions that will help you ignite your team and get them all pointed in the right direction as you go into the end of the year busy season. Finally, we close the articles with When is it Time to go Solo? by Martha Miller. A new writer to DERMASCOPE, Miller has put together an article that is perfect for anyone who is new to the industry or considering a solo career. She takes you through a business plan and shares the trials and triumphs of her own story in this enlightening article.

You will also find the cover story on our newest inductee to the Academy of Legends, Rosa Acevedo de Sallas. Her story is quite fascinating and inspiring. I have the honor of calling Rosa my friend and I am proud for the opportunity to work with her as she continues her efforts to break down the barriers of communication and bring Spanish and English speaking professionals together to learn and work side by side. Beyond her story, you will find a glimpse of her tireless efforts in the Spanish section on pages 111-116.

For the latest news on the International Congress of Esthetics & Spa, you will find the South Beach ‘08 Recap on page 46-49 and the Long Beach ‘08 Preview program on pages 51-66. If you have not made it out to one of the shows this year, I encourage you to consider either the Long Beach, September 20-22, 2008 or the Philadelphia, October 19-20, 2008 event. Both will be packed with education, networking, and research opportunities. But if you just can’t get away long enough, then log on to www.myspanetwork.com and get connected through the net.

Until next month,

Saundra
