Dear Reader May 2008

I am so excited to be able to write to you again this month! There is so much going on around us, I don’t even know where to begin.
For starters, we just returned from the International Congress of Esthetics and Spa – Dallas (I.C.E.S.). Once again the attendance at this show set new records over last year. This event continues to grow each and every year and is quickly becoming my favorite event. I especially love the party on Sunday evening.
Several members of the Board of Directors, Advisors, and Ambassadors for AIA met during I.C.E.S. regarding the National Certification Program and the energy in that room was electrifying. The newly constructed AIA website went live this weekend and I encourage each of you to visit AIAprofessional.com to read more about the association, the benefits we offer, and how you can get involved.
Speaking of launches, we also launched myspanetwork.com this weekend at I.C.E.S. The capabilities of myspanetwork.com are amazing. As an aesthetician or spa you are eligible for a free six-month trial membership, which will include a multi-page website that you can program yourself. You will be able to upload your profiles, pictures, menus, and services and let the world find you on myspanetwork.com. You will also be able to open your free e-mail account, create a newsletter to keep in touch with your clients, and so much more. There’s just too much to list, so log on, get registered, and start taking advantage of this incredible new tool.
Finally, we turn our attention to the magazine. How many of you are former Girl Scouts? Do you remember these words from your childhood?
Make new friends, but keep the old.
One is silver, the other gold.
I wasn’t a Scout, but I remember hearing those words from my mom many times. Funnily enough I am having the same conversation with my own daughter now.
In this issue we are focusing on the male market. How do you talk to men, how do you turn them into loyal clients, what special considerations do you need to make before you expand into this demographic? These questions and more will be answered through the articles that we have compiled for this issue. As you make the appropriate adjustments so that you may receive these new clients remember the lyric above. The words themselves may be very sing-song, but the message speaks volumes.
While we are at it, we are also launching a new section in the magazine this month. Beginning in this issue you will find DERMASCOPE, en Espanol. Rosa Sallas, the former publisher of Spanish edition of DERMASCOPE has rejoined our team and is once again creating information about and for the Spanish market. I would like to express my appreciation to Rosa for all of her hard work and welcome her and all of our Spanish readers to our publication.
As you can see we have been hard at work this year, and we will continue to make strides every day bringing you new resources for a successful career.

Saundra
