February 07

Happy New Year! I hope everyone is off to a great start and prepared for an exciting year; I believe 2007 is going to be one of our best!
We have spent the last several months taking stock and sampling numerous other publications, speaking with many of you, reading what is being written on the boards, and chatting with several industry leaders and advisors. After we collected copious amounts of data, we felt it was time for DERMASCOPE to take a new and refreshing approach to how we deliver content. So, over the course of the spring you will begin to see many changes. Some of the changes began with the January issue and others will appear in upcoming issues.
First, we will be alternating between a Publisher’s Note and Editor’s Note each month, which is why I am just now saying “Happy New Year”. Next, you will notice several pages pertaining to AIA in the front of the magazine. I encourage you to read these pages and find out how you can become involved. The biggest change of all will be the addition of many new feature departments. Our intent with the new feature departments is two-fold. Primarily we want to increase reader interaction. Secondarily, we want to give you an opportunity to finish the magazine each month. In order to accomplish this goal, the new feature departments are going to short, snappy, quick reads. Never fear, we will still have in-depth articles in each issue that are focused on distinct topics, but we feel like the bulk of the departments in the magazine should be readable in less than ten minutes.
Of course, all change does in fact require change. In this instance, the most noticeable change will be the lack of columns. We have chosen to forego the columns written by Jane Wurwand and Douglas Preston beginning with this issue. However, they won’t be gone for long. Both Jane and Douglas were firmly in support of this change and are excited about the new opportunities it creates for them to contribute feature articles on topics that are truly near to their hearts.
I hope that as you come across the changes you will be as inspired by reading them as we were in creating them for you. Please send me your comments, questions, and critiques any time at saundra@dermascope.com. Also, I encourage you to look for the numerous opportunities to contribute to the pages of upcoming issues. DERMASCOPE is dedicated to building a community both in print and online at www.dermascope.com that directly connects you to your colleagues, industry experts, and the manufacturers. Join us in our efforts to make our industry stronger one aesthetician at a time!

Happy reading,

Saundra
