Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals (ABMP) has released results of its biennial survey of massage school operations, providing benchmarking data massage therapy schools and programs can use to evaluate their operations. ABMP has conducted the research since 1998 as a service to the profession. In September 2010, ABMP e-mailed a confidential survey to 1,229 massage, bodywork, and somatic therapy schools in the U.S.


Bellus Academy has acquired the Midwest’s premiere beauty school to become its first location outside of Southern Calif. In January 2011, The American Academy of Cosmetology and Massage Therapy (AACMT) became The Bellus Academy – Manhattan Campus.


Empire Education Group, the largest provider of cosmetology education in North America, has acquired The
Westmore Academy, the first name in makeup education, from its founder and owner, Marvin G. Westmore. Empire will operate “The Westmore Academy at Empire” as an advanced makeup academy for salon, spa, television, motion picture, theatre, runway, and session makeup artists at its current location in Burbank, Calif. Empire will also rebrand its current advanced makeup academy in New York City under The Westmore Academy at Empire’s moniker while expanding the Westmore programs throughout the country.


Dermalogica hosted Step Up Women’s Network (SUWN), a national non-profit membership organization dedicated to connecting and advancing women and girls, second annual Careers & Connections event which drew nearly 100 attendees to Dermalogica headquarters in Carson, Calif. With entrepreneurism and “mentoring” as the key themes discussed, 37 pairs of mentors and mentees, along with SUWN Board members and volunteers, shared inspiring success stories. Raffle drawings took place at the event and each teen and adult were presented with a special gift bag to take home.

The Beauty Bus Foundation was named a December 2010 finalist in the Pepsi Refresh Project, a ground-breaking initiative designed to fund good ideas, big and small, that help refresh our world. With an opportunity to receive $50,000, Beauty Bus Foundation would utilize the grant to bring beauty into the lives of 400 more patients and caregivers. The second staging of the Makeup Artist Design Show is scheduled for March 19th through 20th, 2011 at the fairgrounds in Düsseldorf, Germany. The makeup artist design show 2011 will be a combination of continuous education, practical experience, and trade fair. Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals (ABMP) has announced its 2011 schedule for the next Instructors on the Front Lines workshops, with sessions planned in 27 cities across the nation from January through November.
