Women in Need Get a New Look and a New Lease on Life Through CARA Cares!
Studio CARA introduces CARA Cares Makeovers for cancer patients, underprivileged women, and women in shelters. Leslie Christin, owner of Studio Cara in Orlando, Fla., has created a program to support women in need. The CARA Cares makeover program is partnering with charities in central Fla. to provide free makeovers for women undergoing cancer treatment, living in shelters, and those who are underprivileged. The purpose of the makeover is to inspire confidence in women who have lost some part of their identity through the circumstances they find themselves in at a difficult time in their life.
“I see women who have huge challenges in their life and I want to help. When you are suffering from cancer and going through chemo your face can show significant changes. Not only is this scary and disheartening for the cancer patient, it’s hard on the family as well,” Christin continues, “We have seen dramatic differences through the artful use of makeup. Looking your best when life is hard can truly make a difference in your outlook on life. For women in shelters, looking their best can give them the confidence they need to pursue a career opportunity. Confidence is the key to success.”
The first charity to benefit from the CARA Cares makeover program is Vanessa Echols’ Compassionate Hands and Hearts Breast Cancer Outreach (CHHBCO). The mission of CHHBCO is to support those needing help battling breast cancer by improving the quality of life for them and their families. Vanessa Echols, founder of CHHBCO said, “I came to know Leslie and Studio CARA in 2004, during one of the most difficult periods of my life, when I was undergoing treatment for breast cancer. Because I’m a news anchor at WFTV Channel 9 in Orlando, maintaining my on air appearance was a unique challenge while I was receiving chemotherapy. Not only did Leslie work with me personally on my makeup and skin changes, but she spent an hour teaching me the art of applying false lashes, because of my hair loss. In 2007, I founded Compassionate Hands and Hearts Breast Cancer Outreach. We meet patients’ practical needs by helping them with meals for their families, shopping, transportation, et cetera. But, we also meet their emotional needs with wig shopping and a day of pampering. Leslie and the Studio CARA team have been invaluable to us for our clients who request makeovers to help them feel better on the outside. Many of them arrive at Studio CARA feeling depressed and self conscious about the appearance changes cancer has forced upon them. But right before our eyes, we see their attitudes transform as Leslie and her team transform their physical appearance.”
Three women each month will receive a makeover from Studio CARA. They will learn how to look and feel their best as they are going through their cancer treatment. For many women, this new look helps their families cope better with their illness and gives them the confidence to do what they can to fight their breast cancer battle.
Studio CARA will be accepting requests from other charities in the area to be a part of the CARA Cares makeover program. There will be three makeovers per month offered to local charities. Over $8,000 in products and services are to be donated each year.
