Jan Marini Skin Research, Inc. (JMSR) announced the promotions of Bob James to Vice President of Finance and Mark Marinovich to Vice President of Marketing Communications. James joined the company as director of finance in April 2006. Since joining the company, he has implemented a new accounting system and restructured the finance department, positioning JMSR for future growth. Marinovich joined JMSR as director of marketing in July 2006. He spearheaded the company’s recent rebranding and will contribute to the development of JMSR’s long-term strategic plan.

Murad continues to raise the bar for quality professional training and education by announcing a new partnership with the National Coalition of Estheticians (NCEA). Under this partnership, Murad is named an official Authorized Training Center for NCEA certification courses for the entire Southern California region, and all Murad educators will also be certified as NCEA Master Estheticians. Murad will be opening its educational facility to the NCEA, and hosting Certification Courses for aestheticians. Additionally, all Murad educators will attend NCEA courses, empowering them to advance their training and skills, which, in turn will better enable them to offer top-notch service to customers.

Awards and Celebrations

Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals (ABMP) said it won six awards from a leading publishing organization, including gold and silver EXCEL awards for its flagship Massage & Bodywork magazine and a silver award for the general excellence of its editorial products. The Society of National Association Publications (SNAP) is the leading association publishing organization and has shaped industry standards for more than four decades.

Preparations have begun for the 10th annual Independent Cosmetic Manufacturers and Distributors Young Designers’ Competition. The competition attracts students from schools across the nation vying for the prestigious awards. The competition highlights student talent in personal care packaging from six elite academic institutions. Participating schools include: the American Academy of Art, Chicago, Ill.; the Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, Ill.; the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM), Los Angeles, Calif.; the Fashion Institute of Technology, New York, N.Y.; Miami International University of Art & Design, Miami, Fla.; and Savannah College of Art & Design, Savannah, Ga.

Skin Blends staff of professional aestheticians were recently invited to speak to a group of over 100 women at a luncheon held at the Tower Club in Springfield, Miss. The topic was “How to Look
Younger Longer”.

OPI recently starred on Extra, the popular celebrity news show, in a segment featuring an inside look at the prominent nail care company’s headquarters in North Hollywood, Calif. OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director Suzi Weiss-Fischmann led Extra on a private tour into OPI’s secret lab and revealed the hottest shades for nails.

The Professional Beauty Association (PBA) presented an array of educational opportunities, association updates, informative keynote speakers, and industry recognition at Cosmoprof North America 2008, the premiere business-to-business beauty trade show. Cosmoprof North America brought 740 exhibiting companies to an expanded show floor, along with more than 25,000 international attendees all under one roof at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. In addition to the large amount of business conducted, PBA offered members and non-members classes, seminars, round-table discussions, and networking opportunities in order to maximize their experience.

The new drom U.S. will be lead by a flexible management team that comprises of the heads of the core divisions: Andy O’Shea, Vice-President Sales, Robert Stapf, Director of Marketing, and Ferdinand Storp himself. The team is completed by Patricia Gambardella, Vice-President of Administration.

The votes are in, and OPI products were honored with Essence magazine’s 2008 Readers’ Choice Beauty Awards in a variety of categories. The awards were announced in the magazine’s August issue.

 

Random Notes

YON-KA Paris products are featured in the British version of Vanity Fair in a photoshoot featuring cover girl Angelina Jolie, proving that Jolie indeed uses the products. Yon-Ka was not involved in the photoshoot, nor supplied products for it. The photo showcases Angelina Jolie in a natural manner in her dressing room, and two Yon-Ka products – a cleansing milk and a toner spray – are displayed on the side table.

Dominelli International College of Esthetics is proud to announce the latest group of graduates from its CIDESCO and Esthetics and Spa Diplomas training programs.
