PRAVANA NaturCeuticals Founder and CEO Steve Goddard announced that Karen Johnson has been appointed Vice President of Education. During her tenure at PRAVANA, she has worked diligently, with increasing levels of responsibility as an educator at the distributor and salon levels. As PRAVANA’s Vice President of Education, Johnson will be charged with directing the education programs for stylists and professional store managers.

One&Only Le Saint Géran is delighted to announce the recent appointment of Dr. Chase Webber as its new resident Wellness Specialist. Dr. Webber will provide guests of the One&Only Spa with wellbeing consultations and personalized holistic planning sessions.

DermTech, a biotechnology company developing molecular diagnostics for the early detection of melanoma and other diseases, recently announced that Allan C. Halpern, MD, has joined DermTech’s Melanoma Advisory Board. Dr. Halpern is Chief of Dermatology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and widely recognized as an expert in
the early detection and management of melanoma in high-risk individuals.

The Women’s Dermatologic Society (WDS) is pleased to announce the 2008-2009 presidency of Suzanne M. Connolly, MD, who took office at the recent WDS luncheon during the American Academy of Dermatology Annual Meeting in San Antonio, Texas.

SignatureB Communications has launched a web site to help spa owners create personalized e-mail newsletters, birthday wishes, and other custom greetings. The company’s hallmark newsletters feature skin care articles in stylish designs. It also manages e-mail lists and provides
response tracking.

Waka Stone, a cosmetologist with more than 40 years of experience in the beauty industry, has been promoted to Administrative Director for the International Academy, College of Hair and Aesthetics. Stone is in charge of organizing the curriculum for both the aesthetics and cosmetology students, as well as supervising staff. Martha Rodriguez Hoffman, an instructor of Aesthetics at the International Academy, College of Hair and Aesthetics, has been promoted to Director of Education. Her duties include teaching Theory to all students from the Intermediate to the Clinic sections, as well as overseeing instructors, booking guest speakers, and performing administrative duties as needed.

The College of International Esthetics (CIE), Inc. has moved to a beautiful new 8,000 square foot facility in Arvada, Colo. Dr. Lawrence Janowski will be the Medical Director and will be instructing with two other physicians and the CIE Director of Education, Christine Paynter MPH. Arlene Malay, owner has been in the aesthetics field for over 27 years and is passionate about her students receiving “Beyond the Basics” education.

The Women’s Dermatologic Society (WDS) proudly announces that Janet G. Hickman, MD was honored with the prestigious Rose Hirschler award during its annual luncheon at the American Academy of Dermatology meeting held recently in San Antonio, Texas.

Eminence celebrates 50 years of beauty in 2008! Starting with a pre-party in Cancun, Mexico last year to mark the occasion of 50 years in business, the festivities continued to the head office in Vancouver where Eminence staff marked the occasion with a delicious birthday cake and well wishes from the Eminence owners Boldijarre and Attila Koronczay. Aesthetic Technologies announced the signing of a contract to provide microdermabrasion equipment to the cosmetic surgery industry through Cosmetrex, a group purchasing organization (GPO) uniquely focused on cosmetic surgeons and their practices. Under terms of the agreement, Cosmetrex members will have access to Aesthetic Technologies’ Parisian Peel Medical Microdermabrasion equipment, supplies, and services through its strategic supply chain.

Pacific Bioscience Laboratories, makers of the Clarisonic Skin Care System, are proud to announce that their first “Pink Ribbon Campaign” has raised over $100,000 to help fight breast cancer. In honor of October’s Breast Cancer Awareness month, Pacific Bioscience Laboratories partnered with the National Breast Cancer Foundation to offer a special edition Pink Clarisonic, with a portion of the proceeds donated to champion the Foundation’s mission of awareness
and education.

Bioelements was the hit of the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women event in February in Palm Desert, Calif. Guests received individual consultations with Candice Joy Lagatta, Education Manager West and Lisa Gallegos, California Bioelements Learning Coach, and then had products customized for their particular skin type. Bioelements donated skin care products to the entire sold out crowd of 380 attendees. Over $75,000 was raised for Go Red.

RANDOM NOTES:

Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett, who was nominated for two of the golden statues this year, walked down the red carpet at the 2008 Academy Awards and the Independent Spirit Awards with nails painted in OPI’s Privacy Please Nail Lacquer.

Xtreme Lashes™ recently participated at DPA’s Golden Globes gifting lounge in Beverly Hills. Though the Globes never took place, stars still flocked to the suites. Actress Kimberly Elise (‘Diary of a Mad Black Woman’ and ‘The Great Debaters’ with Denzel Washington) was amazed. “They look like princess lashes,” Elise said of the end result.
