NEW FACES & SPACES

As a leader in professional nail care, Creative Nail Design has steadily grown its business over the last 28 years helping to shape an industry that has reached sales of a staggering $7 billion in the U.S. alone. The company, still incorporated as Creative Nail Design, will now be recognized simply as CND. The brand’s new look signifies an overall revitalization that demonstrates CND’s freshly unified and streamlined identity and enables the company to maintain its leadership position while continuing to grow its business in an ever-changing and competitive global marketplace.

Jennifer Seeley joins Photo Therapeutics, Inc. as its new Art Director, overseeing all aspects of graphic design for both the Lumiére Light Thérapie brands on the salon/spa side and Omnilux, the leading brand of non-invasive light therapy dedicated to medical professionals and providers.

 

Jennifer Linder, M.D., a board-certified dermatologist, Mohs skin cancer surgeon, biomedical engineer, and chemist, and Richard Linder, a Harvard Business School graduate, have joined PCA SKIN as Chief Scientist and CEO respectively. Dr. Linder’s extensive practice experience and commitment to clinical research will further develop PCA SKIN’s product pipeline, while Mr. Linder’s expertise in international business will expand the markets offering the line.

Ten skin therapists from across the U.S. have recently been awarded the prestigious LEGACY Scholarship by The International Dermal Institute. The latest recipients are: Patty Baker of Minneapolis, Minn.; Audrey DeVallois of Miami, Fla.; Kim Ferrell of Yorba Linda, Calif.; Dana Gonzales of Groves, Texas; Kristin Lambson of Phoenix, Ariz.; Lisa McCaroll of Moonachie, N.J.; Maria Negrete of New York, N.Y.; Audrey Nkadi of Houston, Texas; Amber O’Shields of Madison, Ala.; and Ann Pospishil of Cedar Rapids, Ind.

Sylvia Alvarez has joined the company as a Sales Representative focused primarily on the company’s popular new Lumiérespa Light Thérapie as well as its core-established brand, Lumiére Light Thérapie, an advanced non-invasive facial rejuvenation treatment for salons and spas. Alvarez is a licensed aesthetician and comes from a comprehensive sales background.

AWARDS & CELEBRATIONS:

Amanda Beard, Olympic gold medal swimmer and model, was among the well-known celebrity presenters and winners attending the official ESPY Awards (for excellence in sports) and receiving the new ALEK Essentials line.

Kathy Murphy of Vallejo, Calif. was the lucky winner of a Bio-Therapeutic Platinum Nano™ device at the San Francisco Face and Body convention. Murphy received the Platinum Nano, which includes three hands-free accessories: Bio-Masque™, Invisible Expression Masque™, and Rejuvamit™, as well as a selection of bT-Ceuticals™ skin care professional products. Over 325 attendees registered to win Bio-Therapeutic’s Platinum Nano™, but Murphy was the Be Lucky with Bio-Therapeutic winner!

The votes are in! ME! Bath aficionados voted Kerstin Brandemuhl’s new scent, Sonoran Sunset, the winner of ME! Bath’s First Annual MY! Bath Ice Cream Contest to name the new Ice Cream flavor. The Gilbert, Arizona native created Sonoran Sunset. Sonoran Sunset will join ME! Bath’s 30-plus other flavors!

Colorlab Cosmetics was awarded “Best of Show” in the Best New Product competition at EX*TRACTS®: New discoveries in beauty and wellness. Awards also were presented in five product-specific categories (Bath & Body, Beauty Accessory, Cosmetic & Fragrance, Natural/Organic, and Packaging), with winners and finalists selected by a panel of trade editors. Criteria included innovative design, creative use of materials/construction, and use of new materials/technology.

The Cosmetology Educators of America (CEA) named Wendy Spangler, an educator at Brio Academy of Cosmetology in Meridien, Conn., as the N.F. Cimaglia Cosmetology Educator of the Year at the association’s 13th annual convention in Las Vegas. The award is co-sponsored by CEA and Milady and recognizes the individual who has made the most significant contribution toward upgrading professional standards of educational excellence, particularly in the area of student involvement, during the past year.

Thermage, Inc. announced that it has been honored with the “2006 Laser & Light Technology Choice Award” in the Best Device for Skin Laxity category for its ThermaCool® system. The award, which was presented by Aesthetic Trends & Technologies magazine, recognizes notable technological innovations in cosmetic laser and light technology.

Bio-Therapeutic was honored at the Skin Inc. Face and Body Convention held in San Francisco earlier this year where they were nominated by the American Skin Care Industry as the Best of the Best for Industry Equipment, 2007. The Best Industry Equipment Award is granted to a forward thinking company that catapults skin care technology into the next generation of quality and precision.

Bioelements held the 2007 Advanced Product Technology Symposium sponsored by Marshall Salon Services. The Symposium was an all-day event for an audience of skin care professionals, aesthetic students, and spa business owners. Guests were treated to perspectives from leaders in the spa industry, personal interaction with Bioelements educators, and a debut of the product line’s upcoming innovations.

After manicures, massages, and a bracing shot of Botox, celebs spending the day at a Beverly Hill’s salon prepping for the July 14th ESPY Awards (Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Awards) went home with a gift bag from ibd that promoted the tag line to their Soak Off line of gels, removers, and polishes—“I will not commit.”

Liberty Media Corporation (“Liberty”) and BORBA LLC announced that Liberty, through its Liberty Interactive Group, made a strategic investment in BORBA. This strategic alliance will enable QVC, Inc., also attributed to the Liberty Interactive Group, to continue its strong relationship with the successful health and beauty brand while allowing Liberty to participate in the value creation stemming from BORBA’s distribution through QVC. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

California educators and cosmetologists Nadene Bruders and Gail Bowyer have combined their 50 years as school instructors, working hairdressers, and state board exam experts in their educational new book and CD, ‘A SHEAR PASS’. These two industry pros have just introduced an illustrated and easy guide to passing the California State Cosmetology Board Exam, covering both the practical and the written tests. Created (and kept current) for all cosmetology students and any hair professionals wanting to pass the CA State Board Exam, Bruders and Bowyer offer proven techniques that enable passing the exam, with all methods in accordance to the California State Board performance criteria.

Teacher, counselor, and speaker Michaela Boehm de Wet recently conducted her first IDI one-day class for skin therapists, Recharging Your E!: Energy, Esteem, and Emotional Balance, held at the brand’s headquarters in Rancho Dominguez, south of Los Angeles.

At the City of Hope Spirit of Life dinner, honoring John Heffner, President/CEO of Creative Nail Design and Chair of the Professional Beauty Association’s governing body, Jim and Cheryl Markham, founders of PureOlogy Serious Colour Care, donated $25,000 in the honoree’s name.

Blue Water Spa and Dr. Michael Law, a board certified plastic surgeon, announced an education program on medical aesthetic topics for licensed aestheticians in North Carolina. The Institute will host intensive domestic and global training sessions. Concept CND will be CND’s flagship venue for total hand and foot beauty.

Avicena Group, Inc., a latestage biotechnology company that develops central nervous system therapeutics for neurodegenerative diseases as well as dermaceutical products, announced that it has signed an exclusive worldwide distribution agreement with RITA Corporation, a leading supplier of specialty chemicals to the personal care industry. The agreement covers global rights to certain of Avicena’s proprietary compounds for use in the personal care industry.
