DERMASCOPE Magazine and Les Nouvelles Esthétiques & Spa welcomed attendees to the Arlington Convention Center for another stimulating International Congress of Esthetics and Spa (ICES) tradeshow in Dallas, Texas, on May 4th and 5th, 2014. Aestheticians, hair removal specialists, educators, massage therapists, and makeup artists were greeted in the Lone Star State with beautiful weather for this two-day event.
General Session
Hosted by William Strunk, publisher of DERMASCOPE Magazine, the General Session was sponsored this year by two prominent companies in our industry, GlyMed Plus® and PCA SKIN®. Composed of speakers, well respected among their peers, the General Session consisted of medical aestheticians, educators, authors, health coaches, spa owners and managers, skin care professionals, massage therapists, makeup artists, reflexologists, and business owners – all presenting the most sought-after topics and demonstrations to help attendees advance their career.
The lectures and demonstrations on stage included the following topics:
• Ashiatsu Barefoot Massage (demo) by Ruthie Hardee
• Managing Your Clients (lecture) by Laura Cooksey
• Consumer Perception of Peels: Minimizing the Fear Factor (lecture) by Cheryl Staurowsky
• Camera Ready Makeup Made Easy for You and Your Client (demo) by Annie Mayo
• Lomi Lomi Face and Neck Treatment (demo) by Gloria Coppola

Workshops
From the General Session to the all-inclusive seminars and manufacturers’ workshops, there was undeniably a class for every professional. Attendees were provided with a wide range of information, understanding, knowledge, and skill within each of the covered topics. The best teachers, manufacturers and distributors were assembled to educate on the latest in procedures, know-hows and modalities, and the educational opportunities were abundantly available. All told there were 24 education classes and 47 product knowledge trainings.
AIA Classes
Aesthetics International Association (AIA) was founded as the first American aesthetics association. Holding educational classes at each ICES tradeshow, AIA classes offer continuing education credits in select states. In this tradeshow, AIA conducted educational classes on both days, for attendees to learn on all aspects of the spa business. Kenna Strunk and William Strunk spoke on overcoming retail and simplifying social media, respectively.
Tradeshow Floor
Let us not forget the tradeshow floor! Once the doors opened on both Sunday and Monday, the tradeshow floor was teeming with enthusiastic attendees. Vendor booths were filled with passionate skin care professionals ready to buy products, watch demonstrations and establish new networking relationships. Exhibitors voiced their satisfaction regarding attendees’ enthusiasm and the positive energy that emanated throughout the entire convention center. There were over 150 exhibitors on the tradeshow floor at this event, making it without a doubt, a phenomenal success for exhibitors and attendees!
PHRC
Also coinciding with the ICES tradeshow was the second Professional Hair Removal Conference (PHRC) held this year. PHRC expanded its event, allowing hair removal professionals from the South and West to join in on this informative conference. With 15 hours of continuing education available, this year’s PHRC in Dallas experienced growth and success with its education and attendance. Attendees were pleased with the detail and knowledge bestowed upon them from the conference coordinators and speakers.
