Shhhhh… do you hear that? Close your eyes, be still, breathe slowly, and listen to the sounds around you. What images flow through your mind? Can you feel the movement of your chest expanding with each breath inhaled? Is there any sensation that you are able to feel on your body? Are the sounds harmonious, majestic, and symphonic, or are they dreary, terrifying and making you cringe? Do the sounds you hear change the images you once had? Do they change the movement of your chest? Have the sensations you once felt diminished and new sensations arrive?
Sounds affect every other sense in your body; they are interconnected. Music that is played in the spa is interconnected to the client’s experience. A spa is a retreat full of bliss and serenity. Clients want to be relaxed and hear sounds that soothe the soul. The vibrations of noise will filter the senses causing a reaction of a transparent trance. Clients will move slowly to the rhythm of tranquility, processing in their mind images of escaping on a journey full of their fondest fantasies that bring them momentary joy. This momentary joy will enhance their sensations, awakening their spirit to dance in enlightenment as they prepare to be pampered while they are there.
An awakened spirit allows clients to experience their treatments to the fullest. The music becomes a lingering wavelength flowing through the body and keeping it sedated. The body forms a synchronicity with the music and if the music becomes disrupted, so does the client’s experience. It is extremely important that music is able to play
continuously, without skipping a beat. The client needs to feel at peace the entire time that they are at the spa and, the less interference with their experience, the better and more memorable their experience will be.
Memories are important to a client when they visit a spa. They want to remember what they experienced and the first thing they will remember is how they felt. Music sets the mood upon entrance. Walking into a spa and hearing the sounds of a waterfall or ocean waves with quiet seagulls in the background will put them at ease and they will feel comfortable, trusting that their spa experience will be restorative. If they walked into the spa and heard the top 40 hits on the pop chart being played, they would question how their experience is going to be and walk in a little more guarded full of uncertainty.
The impact of music in the spa not only affects the client’s experience but also the success of the spa. Every spa wants returned customers. In addition, new customers and word-of-mouth is the greatest form of free marketing that any business could receive. Playing music that allows a client to experience every part of their senses that will leave embedded memories that they will want to share with others.
