Currently Angelina Jolie is the standard bearer for lips. Thousands if not millions admire her lips and try desperately to imitate them. Her signature pout has been responsible for a dramatic increase in procedures to increase lip volume.
As fashion continues to dictate, there is a vast array of products on the market that can help to enhance the lips in order to achieve the desired result. Whether the pigments are naturally or synthetically derived, there is a product for everyone.

The Egyptians are likely one of the first recorded cultures to have used pigments derived from fruit to enhance the lips. Pomegranate was one of the most widely used fruits, not only for its color but also for its significance for fertility. Over the centuries, the fashion for enhancing the lips was more for the aristocratic society as they had the means to afford these luxuries. That is not to say the general population did not try to imitate by simply biting the lips to stimulate an increase in blood flow to produce that carnal pigment.

As seasons change, the lips can become chapped, dry and peel. This delicate area is one of the first indicators of dehydration. It is important to drink a lot of water to maintain healthy lips. But conditioning the lips with a simple formula like olive oil can help as well.

Be careful to not over-exfoliate with abrasive products as thinning the lip’s epidermal layer can create more potential for infection or irritation.

Unfortunately, most of us will lose lip volume as we age because of collagen depletion. Formulas that contain stimulants like cinnamon may help temporarily. For the more daring, there are a lot of injectable fillers on the market that will have a longer lasting effect. However, this option is a personal choice. Make sure to thoroughly research and get recommendations before following through with any procedure. Even if it is temporary, you need to be happy with the end result.

Do not forget to use sunscreen on this area of the body! During the summer, lips can be damaged permanently causing severe repercussions in the future. We all want to have a great smile and there is no doubt that this is one of the best functions for our lips.

If you suffer from high acidity or digestive stress, the lips can be an indicator of internal imbalances according to Eastern medicine. There is no doubt that stress can also have an impact, as those that have the virus herpes simplex will attest to – cold sores are not fun!
