Granting women the power to conceal and correct imperfect complexions has been the mission of Pauline Youngblood, founder and president of Youngblood® Mineral Cosmetics. Youngblood draws inspiration from nature as well as her own practical experience as a paramedical aesthetician to dermatologists and plastic surgeons.During her career as a medical aesthetician, Youngblood was in daily contact with patients who had severely traumatized skin from harsh laser treatments, acne, rosacea and cosmetic surgeries. Such patients often take up to six months before their skin returns to normal, and she simply was not satisfied with the makeup options available. As a result, Youngblood began working with chemists to develop a suitable option – a product that would cover raw, inflamed or discolored skin, while allowing it to breathe and heal. This led to Youngblood’s initial work with natural mineral cosmetics, and in 1996, she founded Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics. More than 15 years later, Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics is now a complete line, offering dozens of products in a comprehensive palette of shades with realistic skin tones and beautiful, natural finishes; and it continues to create top-quality products that are innovative in both formulation and packaging. Youngblood’s compassion led her to develop her first products in a medical setting. Q: What is the strength behind YOUNGBLOOD® MINERAL COSMETICS?
A: The powerful combination of Pauline Youngblood and her staff – she provides the inspiration and her team delivers.
Q: What sets you apart from other manufacturers?
A: Youngblood® Mineral Cosmetics is not a private label and is proud to create unique products from scratch. The majority of our products are made in the U.S., and we do not test on animals.
Q: Are there any new products in development?
A: Youngblood® Mineral Cosmetics will be debuting a new lip product for the Summer 2012. It will provide the benefits of lip care in shiny, sheer shades.
Q: What do you think about the future of YOUNGBLOOD® MINERAL COSMETICS?
A: The future is full of the promise of more growth and visibility. We are making concerted efforts to expand our product availability and brand recognition.
Q: How many representatives do you have and what territories do they represent?
A: We primarily rely on distributors to promote and supply our line domestically and internationally. Our sales force is comprised of five reps and they offer additional support from coast to coast.
Q: What education and customer service support do you offer clients – initially and long-term?
A: Our in-house education team hosts semi-monthly seminars at the Youngblood® headquarters; there is a reward system in place, which allows accounts to earn “points” towards having a Youngblood® trainer travel to their location for hands-on education; we provide useful, comprehensive education materials; and our customers are always greeted when they phone in by a live customer care representative. Webinars will be available in the near future.
Q: What are your goals for YOUNGBLOOD® MINERAL COSMETICS and how do you partner with your clients to achieve them?
A: A key objective of Youngblood® Mineral Cosmetics is to meet the needs of our clients’ – so they can do the same with their customers. In addition, we evaluate the current market to help determine ways to generate more business for our accounts, including customized display units or sending one of our makeup artists to participate in a spa/salon event.
Q: Does YOUNGBLOOD® MINERAL COSMETICS support any particular causes or charitable organizations?
A: We believe benevolence is beautiful. Youngblood® is proud to be affiliated with a number of generous organizations including the National Breast Cancer Foundation and the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals’ (PETA) cruelty-free program. Youngblood® also supports the environment. The majority of our sleek packaging is made of recyclable material; our product cartons are printed on Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) stock using soy ink; and our brush handles are made from FSC-certified wood. On a local level, we have donated products to neighborhood schools for silent auctions and participated in fundraisers for small businesses in the community.
Q: Is there something else, outside of the realm of the questions asked above, regarding your company that you would like to share with our readers?
A: Pauline Youngblood has been a champion for safe, natural-based ingredients since founding Youngblood® Mineral Cosmetics. Her personal battle with breast cancer in 2009 only made her more determined to help women understand the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, which includes a chemical-free beauty regimen.
We use only the purest, most premium grade minerals. We refine our minerals using our proprietary milling process. Although many mineral lines claim to be “jet-milled” or “triple-milled,” not all milling processes achieve superior results and, oftentimes, result in potentially dangerous ultra-fine particles known as nanoparticles. Youngblood does not use nanoparticles in its formulas.
Our products do not contain talc, or any other fillers. Instead, we use rice starch as a healthy alternative to talc and various botanicals and vitamins to create our safe, effective formulas. We are also proud to be paraben free since 2008.
